Background
The University Hospital of Tuebingen with its more than 9,000 employees treated 367,000 outpatients and 74,000 inpatients in 2017. Of these, approximately 17,000 were treated at the University Hospital for Otorhinolaryngology.
Problem
In the context of the medical admission of the patients, extensive medical information must be collected from them (e.g. reason for visit, current medication, previous illnesses and previous therapy measures). It regularly turns out that many patients appear unprepared for the planned admission on the one hand and are partly overwhelmed with the questions in the acute situation (excitement during a hospital visit) on the other hand and are unable to answer the questions necessary for the medical treatment to the satisfaction of the practitioners throughout. This results in dangers for optimal medical diagnostics and therapy as well as additional organizational expenses for the subsequent procurement of the outstanding information. In addition, there are avoidable risks for the patients (interactions with medications for unknown medication, performance of avoidable double examinations, etc.).
Challenge
Elaboration of a solution approach for the collection of a best possible general medical „anamnesis“ – possibly even before the actual visit of the patients in their accustomed environment and with the possibility of using persons from the private environment of the patients for support if necessary. For the patients and practitioners of the ENT clinic, this is intended to create the possibility of collecting the necessary preliminary information for the treatment in the best possible way.
Roles
Experts from the ENT medical field, employees from inpatient admission, programmers
